A Few Kitchen Accessories

After the boutique I promised myself I would chip away at a few of my own To Do's, believe me it is a rather long list that may never be complete!  I seem to add to it faster than I can complete it!

I started with the Kitchen!!

When I first did my kitchen I went for the tone on tone look, which really stressed me out, as I had lots of expensive no turning back decisions to make(my kitchen make over).  But I really love how it turned out.  It just needs a bit of color now!

Turquoise and Lime Green are my accent colors!

Here are just a couple of items I painted up today!  

I love how the stenciled box turned out.

These are wood salt and pepper shakers I picked up at the thrift store and painted.  A GREAT way to add color.

My kitchen is getting closer to being complete, a few last details and I will post some pictures of the new look, I want to say completed kitchen, but I would be lying to myself.  I know I will have to add or change something!

Drop Cloth Pillows and a Tutorial!

You may remember this cute bench and the tutorial I promise for the pillows!  Well here it is:

I knew this bench could be an inside/outside bench so I wanted the pillows to be versatile as well.  They are made out of a drop cloth from the local hardware store!  Very durable and easy on the pocket book.

Once you have your pillows cut out and sew to size you will want to stencil them before sewing them on to the pillow.

You will need:

1. stencils
2. latex paint
3. paint brush

 Decided where you want you stencil and pressed it down firmly, or use blue tape to hold in place.  I used the wood end of my paint brush for this as I felt I had been control and for many areas they were just dots.  Dip it in your paint, Go lightly on the paint to avoid bleeding, and dot it in to your stencil.  As you can see from the pics above I didn't do the entire stencil, I only did parts of it on different areas of the pillow to make it appear as though I had several different patterns.  

I didn't wash these after but if you would like to you can.  It will not wash out!  

Once your paint is dry place the pillow sham over the pillow form and sew it up!  I left my edges raw as I liked the look!

I kind of, well not kind of, I did hoard all of my furniture I had collect over the last few months for my boutique!  I sold a few pieces, however I still have a few left, and I am running low on garage space so it is time to move some product!!

Lamp Revamp!

I don't know if you are like me but I always seem to have a million lamps and shades laying around that I have decided I don't like anymore but still like enough to store (which drives the hubby crazy)  I decided to experiment with a few of them for the boutique.  I am so happy I did!  I redid 3 different lamps and I am amazed at how different each one turned out!  

This lamps was an inspiration from Pinterest (here is the tutorial I worked from)  As I look back at that lamp of inspiration mine turned out quite different.  To me that is the best part of the internet/pinterest, to find something you love and turn it into your own style.  Recreate it, make it your own, leave your own mark on it!!  I painted the base of this lamp a soft turquoise and I love the calming feel of this lamp.

When I found this little lamp I couldn't pass it up, but yes it was another lamp that added to my stock pile.  Why am I such a sucker for lamps?  It has some old grandma like beads on it so I cut those off and wrapped it with LARGE twine.  I love the earthy feeling it added to the lamp. 

For this lamp I covered the shade with burlap and then I hot glued gathered strips round the lamp (gathering tutorial)  I love the finished product.  To me it is so vintage and a perfect match for my daughters room.  Which is almost done, I am so excited!!

Bed Frame Turned Bench

I had this old bed frame in my garage FOREVER.  I had previously redone it, for our guest room in our other house but once we moved I just didn't love the style of it anymore so it sat and sat and sat in the garage.  Until it finally spoke to me "please make me into a bench"  Brilliant!!  So that is just what I did!!

I was a little scared to try this, but I guess there is only one way to figure out if it will work, Trail and Error right???

I cut the foot board in half (no turning back now!)  The footboard was a little too short so I had to add some feet on the bottom, as you can see above.  Once I had it the height I needed I build a rectangular frame out of 2x4's and used LOTS AND LOTS of screws to secure everything together.  Once it was all put together I cut 1x4 pink planks down to 18 inch strips, and used finish nails to nail them into the 2x4 rectangular frame.

I wanted this bench to be a fun color, lime green seemed to be the right color!  I sprayed it green.....and it was green, way way way too green for my likings, it reminded me of a green monster.  I needed to somehow break up the green or repaint everything which didn't sound very fun.  I always hate when I do this, but if I don't love it I have a hard time selling it.

I contemplated for a few days until is decided to paint the spindles cream and use a stencil to add a few fun designs!  After it was glazed it looked just perfect, and I LOVED IT!! (check back later this week for a tutorial on the fun pillows!!)

Old Door Turned Coffee Table

First off I want to thank everyone for coming and supporting the boutique!  It was a success because of all the support, and I am truly grateful.  It takes an army to run a boutique and I am so humbled by all the voluntary help and support I received.  It is times like these where you realize how much you take for granted on a daily basis.  So thank you again to EVERYONE for your support!  It was so fun to see old friends, make new friends and enjoy everyones company!
