Pallet Top Sofa Table

I have made a goal for myself this week to blog everyday except Sunday.  I have had this goal in the back of my head for quite sometime now but every week something seems to come up or I am feeling burnt out by the end of the week so I go to bed early instead of blogging.  This week I have planned out my posts, so lets hope all goes as planned, I know it sounds strange but this will be a huge milestone for me.  With 3 kids under 6 some days are consumed with being a mommy.  At times I get frustrated I didn't check as many things off my to do list as I had hoped, but I keep reminding myself, if I loose sight of what is really important, my family, when it is all said and done I will be terribly sad.

Let's kick this week off with one of my favorite transformations yet!  Remember when I blogged about some awesome finds I found a few weeks ago, including this sofa table?  Take a good look at her before......

And here she is after!

This sofa table was a total experiment.  This was the first time I used milk paint, EVER!!  It is about time right?  I used General Finishes Seagull Gray and I loved it.  It was so fun to paint with, and it dried so quickly, which is a huge bonus.  I applied two coats and then I used 220 grit sandpaper to distress it.

Once it is all distressed I sealed the paint with Miniwaxes Paste Wax, this just made it so as I applied my oil based glaze I had a bit more control over where the glaze stayed.  After my glazed was applied I brushed on some dark wax in a few places to add more distressing!  It turned out better than I had hoped in my head!

As you may have noticed in the before picture the glass for the top was broken.  Instead of trying to replace the glass I opted for a new pallet wood top.
I love the character the texture of rough cut wood gives this piece.
I even took a few pictures while I was making this top.  There will be a tutorial to come later this week!

My dresser turned bench has been entered into a Competition on Bob Vila .....

  4. Brooke your sofa table turned out fabulous! I think it has so much character with the plank wood top than it would have with the glass. The seagull color milk paint is gorgeous with the plank wood. Very nice makeover!
