Pixie Skirt by Creolesha

I am not used to modeling clothing I am more of a behind the camera kind of person.....but this amazing skirt was worth being on the other side and it gave me an excuse to put some make up on and do my hair!

The ever so talented Wendy at Creolesha custom made this skirt. It is made from a mixture of cottons, vintage lace, and vintage/upcycled fabrics. They all come together to create the most beautiful one of a kind skirt.

Wendy has been designing and selling vintage and upcycled clothing on Etsy since 2008.  She has also been featured in Couture Magazine several times.  Her designs are so original and unique.  She does an amazing job and she is wonderful to work with!

Update to the Grandfather Clock

My husband and I bought this clock brand new, it was one of the first pieces we bought together.  I remember being so excited to bring it home, I have loved it ever since!
When we bought it 8 years ago I really liked black furniture, but I was ready for something lighter.

I love how the white pops against my walls.  It really lightens up our landing.  I painted this clock with DecoArts Chalky Finish white paint. This is a great paint to use over the top of something that has been lacquered.  I have painted several pieces of furniture that were previously lacquered with latex and other specialty paints and so far this paint has help up the very best.  I lightly sanded this clock and wiped it down really good before I painted it.  Since I was going from black to white I applied about 4 coats to get really good coverage.

I then lightly distressed the details to let the black show through, and I sealed it with a water based poly urethane as I know sticky hands will be all over it.

This clock is a Howard Miller, it isn't anything too fancy, the clock is powered by batteries, but I love all of the details and those cute little feet.

Thanksgiving Tablescape

Are you ready for Thanksgiving?  I am not, but my table is!!
Back when I was a newbie blogger I would seek out tablescapes.  I loved how different elements were incorporated in and yet it came together in one inviting space.
Well I am happy to say I have finally done my own Thanksgiving tablescape.

I put the kids to bed a few nights ago and started rearranging while my husband enjoyed his football game.  He chucked at me a bit, but for some reason this is what makes me happy.  I love to arrange and rearrange until it looks just perfect.  One of the most tricky parts is getting it to look right in your camera, as the camera seems to bring out every flaw!

I used my Great Grandma's hand painted dishes I inherited.  I just love the fruit and leaves painted on them, they are perfect for Thanksgiving.  I think we will start a new tradition and used them every Thanksgiving.

Merry Everything and a Happy Always!

I can't believe it is that time of year again!  I love the holiday season and of course decorating for it.  I am not usually this on top of decorating but I have the wonderful opportunity of teaming up with Homespun Signs to give this beautiful sign giveaway!

I love that this sign is so versatile, it can be dressed up with some glitter or more casual with a few of my nutcracker collection!

Does anyone else love nutcrackers as much as I do?  When my husbands Grandma passed away each Grandchild inherited a nutcracker from her collection and ever since then I have been hooked.  I am always look for the perfect one to add to my collection.  My newest one is the tall gold one.  I found him at an estate sale and just had to have him!

Christmas Goodness

I just added some Christmas goodness to my Etsy Shop.  Head over and check it out!

Decorating for Thanksgiving

I know Thanksgiving is often the forgotten holiday these days.  But I love my Pilgrims and Native Americans so much I have to incorporate them.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays!  I love that it is low key and you get to enjoy the company of family and friends.  Plus it means the next day is Black Friday and I love getting up early to shop the deals.  Don't worry I am not one of those people that will push you out of the way for a deal.

To create this look I used my pumpkins and squash from Halloween and added some fresh and fake hydrangeas to light it up a bit.  I also added my burlap flowers for something added texture and I pulled my gold frame and wreath back out.  I have missed them!  I also like to use my candlesticks for height and they have such great details.  To complete the look I added some sticks and straw in the holes to make it full!

Update On My Dining Room

I can finally say I am so happy with how my dining room has come together.  After 3 different tables I have finally found the perfect one!  This room has been a labor of love a slow labor of love as we are now going on 4 years of living in our house, but as I look at it, I can honestly say it was worth the wait to make it just perfect.

My neighbor gave me this chandelier,  they found it in a storage shed and no one wanted it....except me.  It was just what I was looking for and the perfect fit for this space.  (full post here)

My open shelves have done wonders for this space.  It is so amazing that removing the cabinet and putting open shelves here would make that big of a difference but it did!  (Full post and tutorial here)

I love the look of upholstered chairs, but they are just not very practical with children.  So I made these skirts to cover the seats.  They are made from a drop cloth so if they get dirty I just throw them in the washer and they are as good as new.  The other 4 chairs I found and made wood seats for them (tutorial here)

And last but not least and the icing on the cake is this beautiful sign.  I had been looking for the perfect something or other for this space.  This sign by HomeSpun Signs was the perfect touch.  I love the inspiring quote, it is perfect for our home!

Happy Halloween...a bit late

This was the first year we dressed up as a family, and it was so much fun!

My little lu was determined to be the Evil Queen on Snow White ever since we met her in Disneyland.  I looked and looked for a costume but they only thing I could find was the head piece.  I couldn't bring myself to tell her no as part of my loved that she was thinking outside of the box.  So I had to get creative and make the rest of her costume.  I couldn't be happier with how it turned out she was so cute in it and played the part well.  No smiling, Queen's orders.

Usually my husband and I are party poopers but this year I talked him into being Captain America with the stipulation that I was Black Widow.  As you can see he played the part well!

Happy Halloween...a little late
