Custom Made Bunk Beds
If you follow me on Facebook you might remember me talking about the Bunk Beds I decided to make my girls when I was 33 weeks pregnant, a little crazy I know. You should have seen the look on my husbands face when I told him my plan. But I couldn't find anything I liked within my budget. I was being slightly picky too, I didn't want white ones since my walls are light, I didn't want wood ones, cause well I just didn't. I am not a huge fan of black as I hate to dust and most of the time boycott it. As you can imagine the list goes on and one...so I had no option but to make them!!

Evolution of my Daughters Room!
I redid my daughter's room again. I know I am a bit crazy!
Here is what it looked like when we first bought the house. A little brown!
I really liked her room as seen below but it is a very small room and with the bed coming out into the room it made the space feel even smaller than it already was. (full post here, including paint colors)
I had been contemplating getting a day bed, but didn't really want to start all over. Until I found this dresser, (full post on the dresser here) it all snowballed after that! First the dresser, then the day bed, then the moving of everything, then new accessories and so on and so forth!
Who would think so much goes into decorating a room right?
My daughter is very much a princess, I wanted to make sure her personality was reflected in her room!
I glazed the shelf and picture frames to antique them! Tutorial to come on glazing!
I found some cute vintage sheet music at a local thrift store. What fun art work!
I made her pink Pottery Barn look a like pillow, Post here Her douvet cover I ordered from Pottery Barn Kids. The pillows I have collected over the years, I think most came from TJ Maxx.
I am hoping I don't decide to change her room again! I haven't even made it to my second daughters room yet!

Baby Girls Dresser
Before:
After:
I am finally done with this dresser!!
The craftsmanship of this dress is just beautiful, I love the way the top 2 drawers bow out!
I was able to reuse the original hardware. I love the charm of old hardware.
I details on this mirror are stunning! It did take a bit to paint them but I couldn't be more happy with how all the details stand out now.
I don't even know what else to say, this piece speaks for itself!

Decorating with MEANING!!
There are so many amazing spaces out there. Sometimes I find myself feeling overwhelmed, wondering how my budget will ever allow my rooms to look a certain way. I was looking at my daughters room today and I realized I wouldn't change a thing. Every piece in this picture means something to me or has some story behind it!
The lamp I found at a garage sale for $5, it had some stains on the lamp shade so I found these butterflies at the dollar store 2 for a $1 and I glued them right over the stains!
The cute bunny hugging a chick was a gift my mom gave her for easter a few years ago
The blue box was also a gift we received when she was born
The oval frame I bought at DI (local Thrift Store) for a $1 and she helped me make the K out of buttons
The cute hat I found at a Flea market for $5
The Cinderella tin she picked out at Lost and Found $5
The bear was also a gift. It is one of those wax ones that smells delicious!
The old children's books I found at Lost and Found Thrift
The characiture we had draw while we were in Disneyland, Yes she even held still for 20 minutes!

Mirror REDO!!
I have had a few questions about the Chicken wire mirror......I hope this answers them!
I have come to find behind every piece that is refinished there seems to be a story...My Mirror Story...
This mirror was the first piece of furniture my husband and I bought together {ahh so sweet} I always wanted a free standing mirror and felt like a million bucks to bring this home! As I have mentioned before we have moved 5 times in our 7 years of marriage and so things get broken. Such was the story of this mirror. on our 4th move the movers accidentally broke the glass and I realized it too late to get it fix, so it too found a home in the basement.
When I started redoing my daughters room I decided to paint it. The original plan was to put glass back in it. However to get the glass cut was more than buying another used one. I have tons of chicken wire so I decided to put that in instead. I love how it turned out and she LOVES it too...she can now change her own hair bows everyday {I don't know if that is a good thing}
I just spray painted the frame and sanded it a little to add some character! The chicken wire is just stapled to the back! SO EASY!!!

My daughter's Room
Before
After:
This Room has been so fun! I wanted the walls to be very neutral and light. Our rooms upstairs are small, so I wanted them to feel as big and open as possible. My wonderful husband out did himself once again with the moldings in this room. I love the chair rail design!
The paint color for the wall is Halo by Benjamin Moore and the Molding is White Dove by Benjamin Moore.
her bedroom furniture is actually pieces I have just collected.
The Dresser I found in the Classifieds for $35. I painted it pink and added some hardware for a total of $100
The Night stand I found at a thrift store for $7. I used some left over paint and bought the hardware for a total of $15
The Headboard was my great grandma's I just painted it white with some left over paint....Free
The mirror used to be in my room but in one of the moves the glass got broken, so we put some chicken wire in it to hold all of her hair flowers!
I made the pillows on the window seat...that post is here
I am almost done with the cushion for the window seat (I have been almost done for a month now) One day it will be done and I will finish the window seat how I want it. I need my mom's help with the cording and she is in pharmacy school so I am patiently waiting!! She graduates in June, I am so proud of her!
She is 3 and really wanted a Disney Princess room, I on the other hand wanted a room she could grow in, so we added a few princess touches. When we went to Disneyland for Halloween she had a characture drawn of her as Cinderella and we bought her a fun frame with the princess on it. It seemed to satisfy her need for a princess room. Although chandelier over the nightstand is her favorite princess feature!!
I am very happy with the way this room turned out.

Pottery Barn Pillows {look a likes}
I saw these pillows in the Pottery Barn catalog and really really wanted some....
but they are $36 a piece!
I found an awesome tutorial here and I made my own!
I would have to say I am quite proud of myself as sewing is not one of my favorite things and often times when I start a sewing projects it sits for MONTHS...but not this one, they are DONE and I love how they turned out.
They are going in my daughters room. Her room seems to be the project that never ends...I just can't get it just right...but it is getting closer!

An Early Morning and a K!!
WOW, it is 6:30am and I am up and moving...not by choice but since daylight savings time my daughters think 6:30am is a good wake up time. I decided I might as well get up and blog right?
Here is yet another sneak peak at my daughters room...geez one of these days I will get it done right? It is so close....I am currently working on pillows for her room hopefully I can post them tomorrow!
I just love letters, I thought she needed a few. I actually drew the shapes on this letter and then painted them and outlined them with a ball point pen. Such a fun way to add color to a letter!

Make Your Own Scrapbook Paper
I LOVED doing this project! All you need is a little paint, and a ball point pen...well if you are like me a pencil too!
I first with my pencil I mapped out how I wanted all my squares, rectangles etc
I then watered down Acrylic paint so it was the consistency of ALMOST water colors...mainly because I didn't want my color to be too bright...just soft and faded.
Next I took a ball point pen and went around the boxes and added more lines and hearts and circles and so on. The best part of this project is if you mess up it looks like it is supposed to be that way!!
I am using this in my daughters room .... golly her room is taking too long to finish. Some days I feel as though I am in the FAST LANE going very slow...I guess when you have a 2 year old and a 5 month old it is to be expected!!

Sneak Peek
My oldest daughters room is coming...SLOWLY...but surely! I love how these boxes turned out! The best part is they are great for a ON A BUDGET project! I covered paper mache boxes with white paper, the fringe is actually just tissue paper you use for birthday presents {you probably have some in your closet} and random ribbon...really anything I could find around the house that were the colors I wanted. Her room is coming together so nicely, hopefully it will be done soon...my next project is sewing a slip cover MY WEAKNESS!!! Wish me luck!
